Dec.8,2003 (north.com.cn) TEDA, after 19 years, has become one of the most environmentally favorable investing areas in China. In a seminar to memorize the establishment of TEDA for 19 years, the deputy minister of planning department of TEDA gave a brief introduction of the development of TEDA. The past wild lands altered its appearance and internals to erect a new image towards the world. Actually, it is a miracle! A miracle made by Tianjinese, and reform of China. Especially in the electronic Industry, Motorola, as a gleaming example, has become an economic growth point.



In 2003, the GDP is expected to achieve a record high of 125 billion Yuan. Electronics, mechanism, chemistry, pharmaceutics, and food industry, which are comprise of Tianjin¡¯s bone industries, has put Tianjin¡¯s economy on its highway of rapid economic development. In the future 10 years, the electronics, mechanism, and the chemistry will be in the triple-tangle status. It is expected an 170-billion-Yuan GDP, and the total output will be 490 billion Yuan.

As the globalization comes and multinational corporations had more choices all over the world, the old advantages of TEDA will gradually disappear. Now our favorable policies, talents, and the resources attract the foreign investors. Some experts participate that as the improvement of investment environment inside the country, several disadvantages turned out: the defective company layout and industry chain, the shortage of land.

Among them, the land shortage will be the toughest problem the TEDA will have to face. By the end of 2002, only 2.1 square kilometers were left for the new projects. Although the west area is in the planning now, it only can serve in the future 6 to 7 years.



Two other obstacles are the defectiveness in the company outlay and the industry chain. The industry chain is a very important link in regional economy. It is evidential in the Chang jiang region and Zhu jiang region. For example, the Beijing-based Motorola Chinese headquarters placed its production center in Tianjin. However, in addition to two companies that serve its spare parts, the other parts all come from Zhu Jiang region and Chang jiang region. Different from the situation of Motorola, Toyota¡¯s outlay companies are all in TEDA, but the problem here is that these companies are all Japan-owned companies. Actually a unlinked regional economy is less attractive for any investors. Besides it, the modern logistic will provide a effective regional cooperation. If the industry chain is like a blood vessel to link the both sides, modern logistic is the blood to give life to this regional economy.

In a word, we Tianjin people and municipal government will do our best to solve the problems we encountered to head for the bright future of TEDA economy and, even the Tianjin economy.
