Dec.25,2003(enorth.com.cn) The first Winter Festival, with"Antarctica"as its theme, opened on Dec. 24th . The Festival is expected to last 38 days, which include the days of Christmas and the Chinese traditional Spring Festival. Calyx canthus blossom viewing, penguin show, and skiing will gave a hot feeling in such a cold winter.



Penguins in Antarctica?

Don't be surprise. This is not a Hollywood film. The penguins are true, but it is not in Antarctica. They are now at Tianjin. Accompanied with two feeders who taking care of their daily living, a team of ten penguins from Dalian Antarctica Animal Exhibition Center is going to spend their 35 days of happy hours in Tianjin Water park.

Before their arriving, a few Eskimo log cabins were built for them. An artificial snow layer of about 20cm-30cm depth give the visitors a feeling that they had flied to an ice world. It is said that those penguins, which lived in Dalian for some days, were used to the climate of North China. Comparing with their homogeneity in the South Pole, their cold-standing ability has degenerated. They even need an electronic heater in their log cabins when they sleep. There are two kinds of penguins in this penguin team. One is King Penguin, the other is Gentoo penguin.

And Tianjin Water Park offered a high price for these precious animals. The daily fee is 10thousand Yuan except for the other expenses. See those lovely ones in our city, who cares the money?

The ice sculpture and teams of ice sculptures welcome the visitors from all the directions. A special field is singled out as the snow-playing site.
