Eastern China's coastal city of Dalian has successfully trade-marked its "City of Romance" brand name, along with 43 related products. "Such a move is significant, as our city is the first one in the country to register our city image into a brand," said Liu Zhengwan, director of the city's Tourism Bureau. Dalian is a famous sea resort in northeast China's Liaoning province.The city's efforts in building up its city image as the "City of Romance" began in the early 1990s.Since then, Dalian has put in relentless efforts to improve the city's tourism infrastructure and image promotion programs in China and overseas.In the past 10 years, Dalian became a "garden city" with 13 million square metres of grassy areas. Forty-one per cent of Dalian's city area is covered in green.In 2003, Dalian submitted an application to the State Administration of Industry and Commerce to register the trademark "City of Romance" and other 43 relevant names. In 2005, the gross revenue of city tourism reached 21 billion yuan. The city plans to build itself into an international tourist city by 2010. (source:china.org.cn )
