Dengfeng city in central Henan province, renowned for a seat with the celebrated, 1,000-year-old Shaolin temple, will hopefully become China's kung fu capital. Taking martial arts as its pillar industry, the city is making painstaking efforts to turn itself into China's "kung fu capital", reporters were informed the other day. Capitalizing on the "Shaolin kung fu" fever constantly warming up both at home and overseas in recent years, note the relevant personalities in the city, Dengfeng has kept up its aid to pool unofficial resources in running martial arts schools. At present, the city boasts 83 martial arts schools, with a combined enrolment of more than 50,000 domestic and overseas disciples. Cited as one of China's 20 prestigious, leading body-building sights, Dengfeng city has been reputed as "the biggest kung fu village on earth." Hence, it will go all out to nurture ace martial arts schools with great masters and brand martial arts products centered on "Shaolin Culture Research Center, Shaolin Kung Fu Study Center and the Kung Fu Apparatuses Research and Development Center".The city will advance simultaneously in integrating the resources of martial arts schools, developing new martial arts products, spurring martial theory researches and martial arts show researches, and popularizing Shaolin kung fu, so as to make it a trade of scale and a trade of a group for sustained development.
