ATM machine appears in Forbidden City
The American Credit Card Company, Visa, and Bank of China jointly installed an automatic telling machine (ATM) in the Forbidden Palace on Monday, bringing the total number of Visa ATM machines in global network to reach one million. The machine bears the distinctive logo of the Olympic Games as Visa is a partner for global Olympic Games and Bank of China is the partner for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Deputy curator of the Palace Museum Ji Tianbin expressed his warm welcome to the corporation. He said the Forbidden Palace was one of the most famous historic relics in China and was listed as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO. It attracted hundreds of thousands of tourists to come to visit every year. The installation of the ATM machine not only brings convenience to tourists, but also adds something new to the ancient palace. Visa's general manager of the Asia Pacific region Richard Chang said the ATM machine could serve for players and tourists during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. And a modern, global payment system could be a basic guarantee to make use of the tourist and Olympic opportunities for the economic benefits in Beijing and whole China.(Source:chinanews.cn)
